On the weekend of 20-21 December the Duke Alexander, Duke Michael and Duchess Olga paid a short visit to Mecklenburg. Duke Alexander and Duke Michael have returned to Germany for the holiday period from the Republic of Ireland and the Netherlands respectively where they are currently studying.
On Saturday 20 December their Highnesses spent the day visiting Hohenzieritz and Neubrandenburg. On Sunday 21 December following a morning church service their Highnesses visited the family crypt and palace in Mirow.
Their Highnesses concluded their visit on Sunday afternoon by attending a discussion at the Hotel Schlossgarten in Neustrelitz on the connection of the former ruling house to the past, present and future international importance of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. The discussion was organised by the Cultural Heritage of Mecklenburg-Strelitz society. Also present at the discussion was the author Sandra Lembke who gave a talk on the background and research that went into her latest book “Majestäten, Feldherren und Herzensbrecher: Gäste am Mecklenburg-Strelitzer Hof”.
