Hereditary Prince Alexander

His Highness Georg Alexander Michael Heinrich Ernst Franz Ferdinand Johannes Maria, Duke of Mecklenburg, Prince of Wenden, Schwerin and Ratzeburg, Count of Schwerin, Lord of the Lands of Rostock and Stargard, Hereditary Prince was born on 17 July 1991 in Freiburg-im-breisgau. He is the second child and elder son of Duke Borwin and Duchess Alice.

Early life and education

Hereditary Prince Alexander was christened in the Roman Catholic Church and, as is traditional for the eldest son of the family, received the name Georg as his first Christian name. Amongst his godparents was Elisabeth Christine, Princess of Isenburg, the wife of Prince Franz Alexander the first cousin of his father Duke Borwin.

Hereditary Prince Alexander grew up in the Black Forest region of the state of Baden-Württemberg in southwest Germany where he received his initial education. He has been heir apparent to the headship of the House of Mecklenburg-Strelitz since the death of his grandfather Duke Georg Alexander on 26 January 1996. Since that date he has held the title Hereditary Prince which is the title reserved for the heir apparent.

Hereditary Prince Alexander’s secondary schooling took place at Wilson’s Hospital School in the Republic of Ireland. After leaving Wilson’s he remained in Ireland to attend the Limerick Institute of Technology Tipperary where he studied for an environmental management degree, graduating in June 2018.

Outside of his studies Hereditary Prince Alexander’s interests included playing rugby, hunting, fishing and kayaking.

Career

Following the end of his studies Hereditary Prince Alexander initially remained in Ireland where he worked for the state owned forestry company Coillte. In July 2019 he returned to Germany to work for a short period in Neustrelitz at the Forestry Office of the State of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern before moving to Rotterdam in the Netherlands.

He currently works as an asset management consultant for the UMS Group.

When his work commitments permit Hereditary Prince Alexander represents the Grand Ducal House at various events.

Personal life

In December 2020 the engagement between Hereditary Prince Alexander and Hande Macit, a Turkish born Dutch businesswoman, was announced. The couple’s civil marriage took place in the great hall of the Mirow Palace on 17 June 2022. Their religious wedding took place in the city church of Neustrelitz on 17 September 2022.

Hereditary Prince Alexander and Hereditary Princess Hande live in Rotterdam. They have one son, Duke Leopold, born 2023.
