Tourism in Ratzeburg

On 30 July, Duke Michael was in Ratzeburg to participate in a meeting about the development of tourism on the island city.

The Principality of Ratzeburg was acquired by the House of Mecklenburg in 1648 and formed part of the territory of Mecklenburg-Strelitz upon its creation in 1701. Today it serves as the capital of the Herzogtum Lauenburg district in the State of Schleswig-Holstein.

The meeting was arranged as part of a fact finding mission around Herzogtum Lauenburg on the subject of ‘inland tourism’ by Dr Bernd Buchholz, Minister of Economic Affairs, and Annabell Krämer, a Member of the State Parliament.

During the visit Duke Michael, Dr Bernd Buchholz and Annabell Krämer talked with Ratzeburg’s Mayor Gunnar Koech, city marketing coordinator Katrin Jester and building authority manager Michael Wolf about the development of tourism on the island city and building projects aimed at strengthening the tourist infrastructure.
