On Friday 22 April Their Highnesses The Duke and Duchess, Duchess Olga and Duke Michael attended the opening of the permanent exhibition to the history of Mecklenburg-Strelitz at the Cultural Quarter in Neustrelitz.
His Highness The Duke was among those to give a welcome speech at the opening. Speaking to the 200 guests in attendance His Highness stated the exhibition was “more beautiful than we expected”. The Grand Ducal Family have strongly supported the Cultural Quarter, loaning various items for display in the exhibition.
The other speakers were Mr Andreas Grund, the Mayor of Neustrelitz, Mr Sebastian Schröder, Secretary of State in the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Ministry of Education, Science and Culture who was representing the Minister President, and Mr Albrecht Pyritz, the Director of the Cultural Quarter who was presented with a miniature Knights badge of the House Order of the Wendish Crown by The Duke during the opening.
During the event the grand ducal anthem Vandalia was sung by Tonje Haugland, singer at the Neustrelitz Theatre, and the children’s choir from the Walter Karbe School, enthusiastically joined by the 200 guests in attendance.
On Saturday 23 April the Cultural Quarter held an open day from 11:00 to 18:00 to give the public the opportunity to find out more about the new permanent exhibition.
