On 28 August the annual memorial service for deceased members of the House of Mecklenburg-Strelitz took place at the Church of St John in Mirow where the family crypt is located. The service was led by Pastor Ulrike Kloss of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany, and the retired Catholic Pastor, Bernhard Szymanski.
This year particular focus was paid to the late Duke Georg Alexander who was born 100 years ago on 27 August 1921 and to Duchess Caroline, sometime Crown Princess of Denmark as the wife of Crown Prince Frederik (later King Frederik VII), who was born 200 years ago this year on 10 January. During the service the historian Sandra Lembke spoke about the life of Duchess Caroline.
At the service Sandra Lembke was appointed a Dame of the House Order of the Wendish Crown by the Duke of Mecklenburg.
Also present at the service was Duchess Olga, Duke Alexander, his fiancée Miss Hande Macit, Duke Michael and Dr Rajko Lippert.
