Today the second of the two annual memorial services for deceased members of the Grand Ducal House of Mecklenburg-Strelitz was held at the family crypt in Inzigkofen, Sigmaringen. The crypt has served as a final resting place for members of the Grand Ducal House since the passing in 1955 of Duchess Irina, the first wife of Duke Georg.
Duke Georg who was born 113 years ago yesterday was the second member of the family to be interned in the crypt upon his passing in 1963. The other family members interned there are Duchess Charlotte (1921-1989), the second wife of Duke Georg, and Duchess Maria Margarethe (1928-2006) the late wife of Duke Carl Gregor.
