Vandalia, which became the anthem of the Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg-Strelitz up until 1918, was played for the first time 175 years ago today on the birthday of Grand Duke Georg in the Orangerie at Schloss Neustrelitz. The anthem was the work of the author Johann Friedrich Bahrdt who wrote the lyrics and the composer Carl Ludwig von Oertzen.
