Royal title for Neustrelitz officially confirmed

Neustrelitz, the capital of the former Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, has officially regained the title “Royal Residence” (German: Residenzstadt). The government of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and the Minister of the Interior, Lorenz Caffier, have now given the necessary approval to the decision taken by the parliament of the City of Neustrelitz back in October to restore the title to the city as a tribute to the grand duchy. As a result moves can now be made to replace references to “Stadt Neustrelitz” on road signs and elsewhere to “Residenzstadt Neustrelitz” to reflect the city’s new title.
